I’ll be interested to see how they play it. If it’s going to be a straight up spy show, well, what’s the point? It would have to be astoundingly good to survive on its own— Coulson alone won’t be enough to keep the legions of the Avengers curious coming back. On the other hand, a straight up superhero show seems even less likely to work, since I don’t think that they’ll want to cast any of the major properties for it, and I think that characters which require little investment of time or interest are what people want out of shows like this. (I hope I’m wrong about that, on both counts.) That said, it’s an interesting, I think probably unprecedented, experiment across two very similar mediums, one that could potentially improve the shared universe that Marvel is trying to build on the screen; but they’re going to have to do it right. Call me cautiously optimistic.
